Poem
Pablo Rivas
This poem is about the discovery of America, and it is told by a native perspective because I think that they were not heard while this event took place. This event is important for Colombia because it was when they discovered the Colombian territory. I wrote this poem in quatrains because it was the best way to express what I thought and maybe how the natives felt.
"America vs. Spain"
They came like a thief in a gold mine to steal, to kill.
They came for us and gold.
They came to fill,
our lands with death, they were bold.
They came with horses,
with great beasts.
They came with fearful forces,
They looked like gods but, they came with disease.
They started on, the coast,
and got there way into
our territory, they looked as rats with lots of cheese. They crossed
it all like passing through a zoo.
