My topic is “ Helmets are bad”. My poems perspective is from a cyclist because I think that cyclists are the most affected by this rule. This event or topic is important to the world because it's a rule that can affect the safety not only for cyclists but other people too. My poem is free verse because of my topic , writing a rhyming poem wouldn’t make it easy like to understand.  

 

"Helmets are Bad"

 

Helmets are bad,

they're uncomfortable like a rock in your shoe,

studies show helmets are dangerous things to wear,

riding a bike is less fun and less safe if we have to wear a helmet,

 

Cars are more careful when there are more bikes on the road,

accidents occur because helmets are bad,

they make us look weird,

they make others afraid of bikes.

 

We would ride bikes like free birds without helmets,

they make less people ride and cars less careful,

cars look like turtles when they see a lot of us in our bikes around them,

but they're also like lions when there are just a few of us around them.

 

In some countries they have taken out the rule and accidents have decreased,

there are still people that say helmets are good,

they say helmets prevent head and brain injuries,

but what they don't know is that helmets actually cause more damage.
