Poem
Juana Mejia
This poem is based on the Taking of the Justice Palace in Colombia. It is told from the
perspective of someone that dies that day because no one hears what they have gone through (because
they're dead). It is important because a lot of people died in the attack and this was provoked because
Pablo Escobar wanted some evidence against him gone. I chose to write this poem in quatrains and
rhyming couplets because it expressed the event better.
"In the Middle of Red and Black Fire"
The doors flew,
Men came into view
With their guns raised
A wicked thought they praised.
Bodies plopped here and there
The blood flew everywhere,
In the middle of delusion
And wrong intuition.
A silver bullet-
Just like a rocket
Made impact with my head
I was already dead.
The light escaped me.
Hurt and shaking
I closed my eyes
I left my life.
