My poem is about the starts of the two parties in Colombia: Conservatives and Liberals. I wrote it
from the perspective of a Colombian citizen. I did some research and this event is important because this
separation made a third group with different thoughts, which then became Las FARC. I wrote this poem
in the poetic form of terza rima and at the end a rhyming couplet.
“What side to choose? The biggest decision of my life”
We were free as a bee,
But not for a lot.
We could finally live.
We were outsiders, or not?
The conflict was over
We thought we were out of the plot.
The government misused the power
It was horrible, as if we only had peace in our shower
They were abusive, parents in the house
All this happen because they had different thoughts.
No one could stand them, not even a mouse.
We were divided
At the end all we saw were shots
We needed to choose a side
They got knots.
We could have died
No one ate
We at least tried
Liberals were the state
They were against the church
Jose Ezequiel was the one to create.
Jose Ezequiel against Mariano Ospina
Conservatives were the church
The war was a search.
What side?
We tried…
