My poem is about african slaves going to work on American plantations. I wrote this poem from the
perspective of an african slave. This event is very important for Colombian history because african slaves
that came to america helped us, the indians that already lived here, develop a lot more things. For
example, the extraction of emeralds. They helped us build the culture that now we live in. I wrote this
poem in terza rima.
“ From Africa to the unknown lands”
“ Then for love of filthy gold,”
“For the need of employees to work,”
Often we hear that told
They snatch, the ones that into their eyes were pure murk,
From our homegrown lands.
Naked on the platform laying, prepared to be a gold mine clerk.
Unprotected and with no helping hands
Day by day they took us all,
monsters of darkness in command.
Hear how the Negroes whey a bawl
making the family hearts wither as a sweat gland,
As the night wind blows up a squall.
