Poem

Mariana Vasquez

My poem is about a problem occurring in the world. Should sidewalk vendors be allowed? This has been a question for many people. My poem is about a lady's perspective. She is walking down Venice boardwalk, and when she sees all the vendors she feels stressed. I think this affects the world and the community because in some ways these people disorganized the city with their selling and it's not fair that the people who pay taxes to sell their things. The vendors don't pay anything and can sell their things. It is a good thing to the vendor because that way they gain money and can soften their family. This also helps to have a smaller percent of unemployed. I chose to write my poem in free verse because it fits more to my poem.

“Not Expected to be a Nightmare”

It was summer vacation.

I was in California.

It was my dream.

Everything I been to was like the paradise

Until I went…

To Venice Boardwalk

It was as horrible as beet.

There was no way to walk.

There were a lot of sidewalk vendors.

Everyone was buying things.

I felt claustrophobic.

Venice boardwalk looked like the Galeria.

I felt really scared

But the sound of waves calmed me.

I went to the hotel

And rested in a bed that was as soft as clouds.
