My poem is about the time when the Spanish people came to Colombia in the 1500’s  and ruled the country for 300 years. I wrote my poem from the perspective of a Colombian guy who talks about the past and shows his hate towards the Spanish people. I chose this perspective because if any Colombian person reads my poem, they will identify the event and will think the same things about what I wrote. This event is very important not only for Colombia but to all South America and Spain because in South America we learned the Spanish language and Spain became rich in an unfair way.

 

"When the Spanish Came"

 

Colombia was a rich in gold country,

Until the Spanish came and stole our gold.

We would be a very rich country.

 

We had an awesome culture,

Also very nice nature

But now we are poor like a homeless.

 

When the Spanish came they treated us like pigs

And all they wanted to do was kill

And after doing us bad, they just left

 

But after all our problems we are now civilized country

And now it is a nice place to live

Colombia is a paradise.
