Poem

Alejandra Aguirre

The poem I wrote is about the peace agreement with Las FARC in Colombia. My poem is written

in the perspective of a judge who is in a court, ready to judge a person because I think that in this situation

a judge has not had the opportunity to have an opinion, to express how she/he feels in that moment of

judging that someone has committed so much crimes in Colombia. The peace agreement is a very

important event in Colombia because without Las FARC people can be safe and there will be no more

war and violence. The poetic form I wrote my poem is in rhyming couplets.

ā€œThe Big Decisionā€

Everyday someone new.

My thoughts flew.

In the court,

my patience is short.

Innocent or guilty, I don’t know.

My knowledge on the case is low.

People confess, lawyers talk,

arguments are as punctual as a clock.

I hear every detail of each story,

for deciding if someone will be trapped

in a small, cold, messy room,

where the floor is like an old, dirty broom.

When I am sitting there,

I think that the change in a man’s life,

depends on my decision.

and am sorry,

and slapped

in my tall chair,

and in his wife’s,
