For my poem I chose Columbus’s arrival to America. I tell it from the perspective of someone that it is in Columbus’s boat. This event was how colonization started with the natives, it was very successful but the way the Spanish treated the natives was wrong. In the beginning of the poem you can see that the Spanish are happy because they finally touched land. I wrote it in a shakespearean sonnet.
"Land"
I see land
Finally after all these weeks
Someone give me a hand
I feel like a noodle, weak.
Touching for the first time
We came from water to gold.
These people don't seem poor,
These people don't seem old.
These people seem black
They use less cloth,
Maybe with mirrors and pranks;
This may be a good plot.
My name is Carlos Prada
We will call it La Nueva Granada
